Typotheque Specimen No. 12
Typotheque’s 12th type specimen focused on a unique aspect of their library: their large collection of ‘sibling’ fonts — typefaces that contain both serif and sans serif versions. Sibling fonts are especially useful in bringing harmony to complex type hierarchies, and the foundry has produced a diverse library of them. We devised a layout system that showcases the plethora of features the typefaces ship with (OpenType features, stylistic sets, small caps, etc.), dividing each spread into black and white pages. While the opener spreads follow a standard information hierarchy, the specimen spreads for each family vary widely in style and content. Careful consideration was paid to the content, which was tailored to the layouts (and not the other way around, as is usually done).
