Delegate Mono
Delegate Mono attempts to achieve the smoothest possible texture within fixed-width constraints. Delegate explores the grey area between cold European Grotesks and warm American Gothics. It takes inspiration from Chauncey Griffith’s iconic agate-face Bell Gothic and various anonymous, highly functional grotesques that manage to remain unobtrusive despite their idiosyncratic shapes.
The typeface balances text-friendly features (compact lowercase, wide uppercase, diagonal cuts, and low descenders) with distinctly grotesk elements (medium contrast and flat, truncated terminals). Delegate serves as a workhorse agate without relying on stereotypical ink traps or loose spacing, instead emphasising core letter design that exaggerates differences, such as the eccentric numerals that clearly differentiate the numbers 3, 8, 6, and 9. This results in a typeface where functionalism serves both a practical and aesthetic purpose.
